Advanced Mixing & Mastering - Workshop (June 22nd)

This workshop provides students the opportunity to deep dive into advanced vocal production and mixing techniques by working directly on their projects AND sitting in on other student critiques. Various 3rd Party software tools are used during the production / mixing process, so spending extra time understanding both all the necessary tools needed for a radio quality mix is a gap in education for many modern DIY musicians. This class will be live-streamed.

● Advanced EQ, Compression, Tuning, and FX for Vocal Processing

● Automation + Signal Flow

● Bussing & Parallel Processing

● Vocal Recording / Mixing Music for Vocals

● Mastering “In the Box”

● Critique and discussion hour

This course is 1 day for 4 hours in my private recording studio.

Production Mentoring - Online Workshop (Ongoing)

This course provides students the opportunity to work with a music producer one on one from the comfort of their own home. Students may use this time for 1-on-1 project mentoring and may set their own goals to reach during each session. Some concepts that are commonly covered include:

● Mixing help

● Production tips / tricks

● Arranging

● Critiquing

This course is 1 hour via ZOOM Screenshare / Video conferencing / Livestream

$70 for Reverb Nation Artists.

Vocal Production - 10 Week Online Course, (Summer 2019)

This course provides students the opportunity to do a deep dive into tips. tricks, and techniques used by industry leading professionals to produce radio-quality vocals. This is recommended for artists / producers that are looking to strengthen the quality of their vocal recordings.

We will use industry standard software Protools & Logic X to explore the following subjects:

  • EQ

  • Compression

  • Reverb, Delay, Timed Based FX

  • Workflow / Signal Routing

  • Autotune / Melodyne

  • Editing

  • Project Management

  • Singer Psychology

  • Advanced Mixing & Mastering

This course is 1 hour via ZOOM Screenshare / Video conferencing / Livestream, once per week, for 10 weeks total. Homework assignments will be assigned.

Date: (Saturdays, June 29th - August 31st @10AM PT)

Cost is $249 for Reverb Nation Artists.

● Project Management / File Systems

● Session Templates for faster recording and Production

● Advanced EQ, Compression, Tuning, and FX for Vocal Processing

● Automation + Signal Flow

● Bussing & Parallel Processing

● Vocal Recording / Mixing Music for Vocals

● Vocal Alignment

● Microphone selections

● Exporting Files between various DAWs

● Time Correcting / Sampling

● Mastering “In the Box”

This course is 1 weekend (Saturdays + Sunday), 4 hours per day in my private recording studio. Cost is $450 per student, $390 for UCLA or Musicians Institute ALUM. $200 deposit is required before start of class, remaining balance due first day of workshop.

Record Production Process

This course provides an overview of the role of the record producer and his responsibility through all the stages of making a record: pre-production, recording, overdubs, editing, mixing and mastering. Topics include, how to use appropriate terminology to communicate effectively with the various members of the production team; sharpening your listening skills so you can incorporate specific elements into your own production; producing for a specific artist's genre of music and how to get the best performance from the artist; how producing a band is different from a solo artist; and how to budget for record production.

You also learn arrangement techniques as well as key vocal production techniques for main and background vocals. Discover the difference between producing a mix and engineering a mix, as well as the different style of mixes that are needed before going into the mastering phase of a project. At the end of the course, you will have gained musical, emotional, performance, and arrangement techniques designed to make your music more compelling.
